The bear is respected for its power and strength and also for healing abilities. According to Ruth, ("If I could be any animal it would be a bear.")  Hand formed and Raku fired, this bear is a unique small sculpture that has been inspired by Inuit carvings and Zuni fetishes. During the raku process this bear has been taken red-hot from the kiln and reduction fired and smoked in a container of whole oats. This process brings out the unique colors and finishes found in raku. The beads on the animal are a gift from the maker of the animal to the spirit of the animal.
