Hand formed and Raku fired, this Bear Hug is a unique small sculpture that has been inspired by Inuit carvings and Southwest Native fetishes. Bears are symbols of strength and this particular bear symbolizes long lasting love and affection. During the raku process this bear has been taken red-hot from the kiln and reduction fired and smoked in a container of whole oats. This process brings out the unique colors and finishes found in raku.
Fetish: An amulet, pendant or charm, often representing an animal or person, believed to have magical power to protect or aid its owner. Bears are respected for their power and strength. |
